What is this wall that surrounds my heart
And keeps anyone from getting to close to me
Is it a fear of opening up to the world
Is it there to protect my naiveté
Is it there to surround my dreams
And to keep anyone from interfering
Is it there filled with hope
To embrace my fears with healing
Is it filled with ideas of tomorrow
While enclosing the thoughts of today
Is it just waiting for someone strong to break through it
To share my dreams along the way
Maybe it’s there to absorb cold feelings
And protect the warmth of my heart
But right now it serves as a shield to love
To keep it from being torn apart
