Back to Poetry

Once I knew you,
Long ago,
When you swore your love true,
But little did I know
That one day you'd leave,
And not tell me why,
That my heart would grieve,
And my eyes would cry,
That our love would grow old,
And my heart would tear,
That you would grow cold
And not even care,
That yourself you would lose
In a world bound to rebel,
And do things to abuse
Your mind and yourself,
That everything I worked for
Would all be thrown away
That we would start a war,
And never be the same,
That if you should ask me back,
Though it hurts, I'll say no,
And what might have been
We will never know
